Green products have great design, tend to function better, which lowers utility bills, and they’re also chemical-free, making them better for your health.
Changing out all the hardware, such as drawer pulls, faucet handles and showerheads, can make a big impact.
If you’re installing a new sink, you’ll first want to measure your available space to see what will fit best.
Most sinks come in one of two styles, complete sink systems that feature an integrated faucet, spout or handle or sinks that feature three-hole setups to allow you to select your own sink fixtures. These sinks offer a good option for working with the tighter confines of a smaller bathroom However, depending on the model, they may require installing the water supply or drain lines so that they’re hidden behind the wall, which can make their installation more difficult and expensive. By providing a rough idea of what you want the finished product to look like, the contractor can more accurately estimate the time and cost necessary to achieve your goal.
Don’t hire unsolicited, door-to-door contractors or those who can’t prove their qualifications. Some states or cities have no licensing requirements for contractors, which can make it difficult for homeowners to check up on contractors before they hire. Never pay more than a third of the total cost of the project of the down payment, and never pay in cash.
Before you sign off and make the final payment to a contractor, make sure you develop a punch list and ensure that the work is complete to your satisfaction.
The cheapest options might be laminate , vinyl or budget ceramic tiles Installation can be done as a DIY project to further reduce costs, but you may need to rent or calculate how much tile you’ll need in order to complete the job. If you can deliver the toilet to your home alone, then the installation cost will be minimal.
On average, the cost of a new toilet as well as installation comes in between $360 and $492.
Change Your Bathroom has a patented complimentary dust containment system that keeps all the dust out of your house throughout the whole remodel! Have you ever leafed through a home design magazine and wondered how you could transform your bathroom? To keep your project moving as quickly as possible, select these items at the very start of the project and do not start the demo process until the arrival date (or thereafter) in order to avoid having a bathroom that’s a construction zone for several weeks.
If your bathroom walls are covered in wallpaper, remove the old paper with a steamer (you can rent one for the weekend.) If you’re painting over paint, remove all flaked, sticky, dirty areas by cleaning and lightly sanding over them. Spend a little extra and get a good quality paint that is mildew-resistant.
If a contractor tells me this work is going to cost $10,000, then I move on to the next contractor.
Contractors are used to running into unforeseen problems and are often dogged with changes by the client half way through the project.
So it is certainly understandable that they’d want to budget some cushion in their bid. I find I can get a very nice tile for between two and three dollars a square foot.
Ideally you want a contractor with between three and 15 employees.
Finding a good and cost efficient contractor is no easy task. I would also say that at least half of the remaining contractors will fail to pass your background and reference check. In your discussion with the contractor, tell him that you only want him to provide labor.
But just consider the fact that if the contractor’s employees have to go to the hardware store then he’s still got to pay his employee’s $58 an hour to roam the aisles of a big box store. Work with the contractor to get a detailed materials list before going shopping.
Every item you have on site and ready for the contractor is time and effort saved in labor cost.
Either way you get your project done at or very near your $5,000 limit as long as you don’t go crazy on materials.
However, beware in construction you don’t always get what you pay for. Request a FREE in-home design consultation today and let our design consultants assist you with your budget, style choices and scheduling.
Organization is key to space-saving, so within any cabinets or shelving you add, incorporate drawer organizers, trays and bins to keep smaller accessories in check.
